Green Strobe Light Technology for Winter Operations
The city of Livonia is installing green oval strobe lights on the rear of their new plow trucks currently under construction at Truck & Trailer Specialities. Green strobe light technology is not a new concept, Ohio DOT has been evaluating its effectness for awhile. It is, however, a new concept in Michigan snow removal operations. Green laser light is much visible and more effective in penetrating heavy smoke, fog, and snowfall than red laser light. Green lighting cannot be confused with tail lights or turn signals. If green lighting could be restricted to use by public agencies for snow removal operations rather than the amber currently used by almost everyone, the motoring public would be able to identify a plow truck well in advance of encroaching upon it. I am anxiously awaiting to evaluate the green strobe lights in winter operations.......
